Ministry of Crab is undoubtedly Colombo’s – and even Sri Lanka’s – most iconic eatery. Situated in the historic Old Dutch Hospital, which was built in the 1680s, it shines a spotlight on the country’s famous lagoon crabs, served in dishes such as crab curry and chilli crab. These finger-licking dishes have propelled the restaurant to fame – recently, it ranked 29th on the 2017 Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list. The fact that owners Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara are two famous former cricketeers further add to the place’s star appeal.
