Discover the rich history and vibrant culture that’s alive and well on the charming streets of George Town in Penang. First, we head to the Hin Bus Depot to discover how a derelict bus garage has been transformed into a creative hub home to yoga studios, bars, cafes, art galleries and a weekly market. Then, we take in some of the island’s rich history with a visit to the grand clan house of Khoo Kongsi, before heading up Penang Hill to explore its new conservation centre, The Habitat. Chef and designer Richard Rivalee explains how his grandmother’s recipes inspired the Nyona dishes he serves up at his namesake restaurant, and we finish things off by learning more about Peranakan or (Baba Nyonya) culture at Chris Foo’s lovingly restored boutique hotel 7 Terraces.
